Some quick facts about railroading around Omaha:

Omaha, a crossroads where 4 railroads meet and pass. Rich in railroad history, from the humble start of the UPRR in the late 1800's, the rise and fall of fallen flags such as the Milwaukee Road, Rock Island, Chicago Great Western, to name a few. Omaha, not really considered a mecca for railroading, but a very important hub for the midwest.

Railroads that traverse Omaha are:

Union Pacific Railroad Company:

Started in 1862, initiated by the Pacific Railroad Act, has a large yard at Council Bluffs, Iowa, several smaller yards, at Seward St, Seymour, MP 8.90, and Woody, MP 11.10. Union Pacific has grown to be the largest transcontental railroad in the United States. Union Pacific Headquarters and Harriman Dispatching Center are all located here.  UP runs several unit coal trains, intermodals, and manifest (garbage trains as known to train crews) across their system.

3 UP Subdivsions are featured on this stream, they are: Council Bluffs, Blair and Falls City.

Check out this YouTube video of UP 7140 East, Unit Coal entering Blair, Ne.

The majority of UP traffic into Omaha is trains approaching from the west over the Council Bluffs Sub, calling out signal indications at points such as "Pamida",MP 10.0, "Omaha Bed" MP 7.0, "Summit", MP 5.0. Trains also call Council Bluffs Tower near Summit for yarding instructions. Trains also clear and recieve Track Warrants over on the Falls City Sub near "Wilson" MP 472.1, which is in fact 1/2 mile away from the stream location!
