Thanks for visiting. Palmer Massachusetts, located near Springfield, is nicknamed "The Town of Seven Railroads."

On this scanner, you will hear CSX, NECR (New England Central Railroad,) and Mass Central Railroad.

CSX trains can be heard crossing Control Point 83, as well as the daily local switcher that comes into the small yard to interchange with New England Central Railroad and Mass Central Railroad. As many as 20-30 trains pass through daily. Heaviest traffic is usually in the morning hours.

NECR operates a small yard, has between 6-10 trains in/out a day, and makes up trains to head North towards VT or South into CT. The time tables seem to change a few times a year,  so its hard to pin down times the trains are running.

Amtrak also passes through. Two trains coming/going between Boston and Springfield run along the CSX line. Another two switch onto/ off of CSX/NECR lines to go to/from Springfield, or to/from VT using NECR's line.

Mass Central comes in once or twice a week to pick up their cars and heads North towards Ware, MA.

A railfan-friendly site is the restaurant The Steaming Tender, which is a former Boston and Albany train station. Plenty of parking and good food can be accessed here, as well as the location- right on the diamond for CSX & NECR at CP83.
