Here's an interesting video on the Union Railroad (a subsidiary of US Steel).
The URR owns 16 miles of trackage and normally runs about 5 trains daily. They run 1 Loaded Coke, 1 Empty Coke, 1 Hot Slabs, and eventually ( after 4 or 5 separate trains) they run one train back as well as the occasional steel coil train for the Irvin Plant from their Mifflin scrap yard with interchange's with the Wheeling & Lake Erie At some point. The coke train will always have 5 MP15DC's on point and a ex: Bessemer & Lake Erie Caboose on the rear. Cabooses are still needed on the Union railroad due to complicated backing maneuvers throughout the line and to get into the mills. The Coil train, will normally have 2-3 Mp15dc's on point as well. The Loaded Slabs can have 3 to even 4 units on point, all MP15Dc's as well. The line isn't a cakewalk to move freight on and off of as when departing from the USS Clairton Works, they have to battle a stiff 2.1% grade until reaching Sandy Lake at the Irvin Plant. Then after clearing the Bettis Tunnel the train enters Bull Run, the steepest part of the line between the 3 mills, where grades are around 2.4 to 2.5% . We'd also like to introduce some videos from the neighboring area of West Newton, PA created by: hlevi3340
This is a perfect meet between two CSX Freights, one with SOO Line units in charge! Here's a video that is a study in railroad sound and sights
