Welcome to the Keyser, WV Area Stream. Please check out the Forum dedicated to this stream for additional info on this stream.
This stream monitors the east end of CSX's Mountain Subdivision located in the Allegheny Mountains of West Virginia. In addition, we have limited radio coverage of the Cumberland area of Western Maryland, including the yard operations in Cumberland. The primary tonnage this Subdivision sees in train movements is coal... with some trains requiring helpers to be added at Keyser if their tonnage is heavy enough to require them. This line sees anywhere from 10 to 15 through trains per day. In addition to the CSX mainline, there is a branch line to the Mount Storm Power Plant which can see up to 5 movements of coal trains per week . Usually a helper is tacked onto the rear because the train has a switch back to negotiate about 3/4 quarters of the way up the line.
We are also monitoring the Georges Creek Railway (GCRY) a [very] short shortline of about .5 miles. They work the Clay Hole at the Luke Paper mill about 3 or 4 times a day moving tankers, covered hoppers and every once and a while a box car or two. In the near future they will be switching the entire New Page Paper Mill. The operator at West Keyser Throws one of the Armstrong levers for the Q317

The Keyser Interlocking tower controls the movements in and out of the Keyser Yard and they are quite talkative on the radio. We hope to be able to have some coverage of the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad operations, but how much and the quality of communications is still to be determined.
