Welcome to the BNSF/UP Temple, TX stream. Temple, TX is a major division point for the Gulf Division of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. Temple is home to three separate subdivisions, a light maintenance facility, a yard, and a fueling facility.

Here’s what you’ll hear: The Fort Worth Subdivision, or DS 22, hosts many grain, coal, automobile, and manifest trains from Ft. Worth. The Fort Worth Subdivision begins at Belco, entrance to the north end of the yard. The Galveston Subdivision or DS 112 controls all movements within the Temple yard/terminal.

The following list should help you with locations within the Temple Terminal:

  • Temple siding, or Adams Street: This is the first siding on the Galveston Subdivision. It is commonly used by through trains to change crews when the fueling facility is full. It is also used as regular siding to meet trains either coming in or out of town.

  • First Street: This is the beginning of the yard lead, off Main 1 (Galveston Sub) and Main 2 (Lampasas Sub). First Street is the beginning of two main tracks toward the six track fueling facility.

  • 25th Street: This is the first siding for all trains going toward the Lampasas Subdivision which begins at CTC Gober. This is commonly used to hold trains when either the yard is full, or for through trains to wait for empty space at the fueling facility.

  • CTC Gober: This is the beginning of the Lampasas Subdivision, or DS 24 territory. The Lampasas Subdivision is track warrant controlled.

  • Fueling Facility: The fueling facility consists of six fueling tracks and is located southeast of Temple along the Galveston Sub. Trains are fueled, inspected, receive needed service, and are re-crewed.

  • Roundhouse: Although the roundhouse is long gone, the servicing crews still call it by its old name. Locomotives for all trains can receive needed light maintenance. If a locomotive on a through train needs maintenance, a “Hostler Job” will move the locomotive or locomotives to the facility from the fuel pad to the roundhouse.

  • North-pad Trainmaster: He is in charge of the re-crewing the train while at the fuel pad.  As a train nears the terminal, the conductor will identify his train to the north-pad trainmaster.

Area locations outside of Temple that you will hear on the radio:

  • Pendelton: first Ft. Worth Sub siding.

  • Nolanville: first Lampasas Sub siding. A common location used for meets with eastbound and westbound trains.

  • Rogers: first Galveston Sub siding and a very busy meeting location.
