CSX Operations: CSX has the most extensive operations in Baltimore. Their east coast mainline passes right through town, in addition traffic also moves to the west out of Baltimore via Cumberland. CSX operates 5 yards in town. - Curtis Bay - This yard located at the end of the Curtis Bay Branch also has a car shop, and recieves a large amount of coal traffic destined for CSX's Curtis Bay coal pier located adjacent to the yard. Other traffic includes ethanol for the nearby Kinder Morgan facility, and autoracks for the Port of Baltimore. Q276 and Q373 terminate at Curtis Bay, while Q353, and Q261 originate out of Curtis Bay.
- Bayview Yard - CSX's main facility on the east side of town. This flat switched yard along the mainline is worked by Q031, Q032, Q388, Q409, and Q410.
- Locust Point Yard - Flat switched yard just south of downtown, located at the end of the Locust Point Branch is worked by Q389. This yard is where Q398 terminates, and Q235 originates. In addition MARC has engine facilities and a storage yard here for their Camden Line trainsets.
- Mt Winans Yard - Flat switched yard located on the main just west of Carroll. This yard is used for car storage for various local industries

Canton Railroad is a shortline operating in southeast Baltimore interchanging with both CSX and NS. Canton's operations are based out of Penn Mary Yard.
